Symptoms

The classic "worm in the apple" - a tunnel to the core with frass at the entry hole.

From petal-fall through summer as moths lay eggs on developing fruit.

Treatment

Hang pheromone traps to time sprays; spinosad or kaolin clay on a schedule. Bag individual fruit on small trees.

Prevention

Pick up drops promptly, band trunks to catch larvae, and thin clustered fruit.
