We built this for our own homestead first.
HomesteadSync started on a small place in Cambridge, Minnesota — with a first flock, a garden that got away from us, and a whiteboard we could never keep up to date.
We fell in love with this life the way most people do: all at once, and a little in over our heads. A few chicks in a stock tank in the living room. A Buff Orpington who turned out to be the friendliest bird we’d ever meet. A pair of Muscovy ducks that ran the place like they owned it. The first morning we carried in six warm eggs, we were hooked for good.
But a homestead is a hundred small things to remember. When the last frost lifts. Which seeds are still good and which to toss. Who’s laying and who’s gone broody. What’s in the pantry, and what needs eating before it turns. We tracked it on sticky notes, in three different apps, on the backs of seed packets — and mostly in our heads. So of course, things slipped.
One spring, a frost we didn’t see coming took every tomato we’d set out. A whole flat of seeds we were sure were fine never came up. A hen sat on a clutch we’d half-forgotten about. None of it was the end of the world — but it was the life we loved, quietly getting away from us, one missed detail at a time.

So we went looking for one app that could hold all of it — the garden, the flock, the pantry, the whole place, in our zone, on our land, even out in the dead-signal corner by the coop. It didn’t exist. So we built it ourselves, over a lot of late nights and one long Minnesota winter.
What it became is the tool we wish we’d had that very first spring. It watches the frost so we don’t have to. It times every crop to our actual yard. It keeps every bird’s name, eggs, and hatch-day straight. And quietly, it adds up what the whole place is really worth — the eggs, the harvest, the full jars — because that work is worth something, even on the days it doesn’t feel like it.
